Art Focus!

Students have been working through a great range of activities in art this term, encouraging their creativity.

Pre-Primary

Throughout Term 1, students in Pre-Primary have been exploring and experimenting with shape, colour and line. Many of the artworks created involved using a variety of artistic techniques such as, painting, drawing, cutting and gluing to create individualised art pieces that aim to improve their confidence in the artistic space. During our ‘Shapes’ lesson, students demonstrated their growing knowledge of 2D shapes when naming and cutting out their own. Students were then asked to outline their shapes repeatedly until they were satisfied with their artwork, creating a sense of ownership over their piece of art.

Year 1 and 2

During Term 1, students in years 1 and 2 have been experimenting with colour and line to create a variety of art pieces. A focus for this term was mixing primary colours to make secondary colours. When producing their ‘Colour Mixing Symmetry’ artwork students were asked to experiment with mixing two primary colours at a time to paint on half of their page, before folding it in half to create symmetry on the blank half of their page. Students especially enjoyed this activity as they created their piece through finger painting.

Year 3 and 4

Students in years 3 and 4 have participated in an art project throughout Term 1. Students experimented with mixing black and white with a colour of their choice, learning the meaning of the word ‘monochromatic’ to make a tint and shade landscape. Students learnt that by placing the darkest shade at the front of their page and slowly getting lighter towards the top of their page they were creating the illusion of depth.

Year 5 and 6

Students began the term celebrating the Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Dragon! Students were required to carefully select colours that stand out against black paper and used a variety of materials including string and oil pastels to create texture on their art. Students also explored Bridget Riley’s optical illusion artwork and participated in an optical illusion project to create a piece of art that had movement and depth.
