ANZAC Day

Students participated in an array of activities to learn about ANZAC DAY, including attending the ANZAC Day Assembly, organised by our School Leaders.

ANZAC Day Assembly

Our School Leaders did a wonderful job running the ANZAC Day assembly which included:

  • Head Boy and Head Girl Reading
  • The Last Post is sounded – raising of the flag, followed by a period of silence – laying of the wreath
  • Reading of the Ode – from ‘For the Fallen,’ a poem by Laurence Binyon
  • The Reveille is sounded
  • The Requiem is read – ‘We Will Remember’
  • Singing of the National Anthem ‘Advanced Australia Fair’

Year 1 & 2 Room 15 & 17

In Room 15, students talked about the meaning of ANZAC and coloured and cut out their poppies for a class display. In addition, Room 17 completed a comprehension activity and answered questions in relation to the ANZAC information provided. Later in the week students will be baking ANZAC cookies.

Year 3 Room 5 & 6

Part of the Year 3 Curriculum is learning about commemorations and celebrations. Students studied the Flanders Field Poem and learnt about the emblems and symbols of ANZAC. They created a classroom display of their work.

Year 6 Room 2 & 3

Students have been learning about the effect of how soldiers felt when they landed at Gallipoli in 1915 and wrote letters home, in the ‘eye of a soldier.’ The class focused on the meaning behind the emblems and symbols of ANZAC and created a whole class poppy wreath on display in the classroom.

Library Display

Our star librarian Michelle Flanigan created another wonderful display, the latest for ANZAC Day. Thank you to those who offered some of the items for the display, including medals, a soldier’s hat and a collection of miniature bear figurines.
