RED Talks – Year 4
The year 4 students have been reading a novel called ‘The Boy at The Back of The Class’. The novel is about the arduous journey of a 9 year old refugee from Syria. Students were asked to write a speech about what Australia can do to support refugees.
Students wrote, rehearsed and presented their speeches to their class before their peers voted for the top students to deliver their speech at Riverside Primary School’s first RED Talks. Mrs Dobbs watched the presentations and was very impressed by the high level of oral presentation skills. We look forward to more RED Talks in 2024.

Performing Arts – Year 6
Over the last semester, Year 6 students have been honing their acting skills. They invited all the different year groups to act as an ‘audience’ for modern takes on the old favourite fairytales. Room 8 performed ‘Little Red Riding Hood,’ Room 9 performed ‘Cinderella’ and Room 7 will perform ‘The Three Little Pigs.’
I am so proud of the efforts put in by our students. They have learnt much by having a ‘real’ audience and they have thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the students and their teachers.

Kindy/Pre-Primary News
Room 23, 24 and 25 have been very excited over the last couple of weeks. When we came to school one morning there was half a glass of milk, a munched-up cookie and a half-eaten carrot all over out floor. We did some thinking, and the kids think that Santa must have come to visit to check on them all and make sure they are on the nice list.
We read a story all about ‘How to Trap Santa’, and then decided to come up with our own creations to see if we could trap him. BUT – we all decided that maybe we shouldn’t try and trap Santa as then he might not be able to visit us on Christmas Day. SO… we decided to try and trap the sneaky elves that have taken up residence in our classrooms. GUESS WHAT? We caught one, we were very gentle, and we let him go again so that he could go back to Santas Workshop at the North Pole.
The children have had lots of fun inventing their own versions of “How to trap Santa”. We have had some very interesting ideas.
