Visual Arts

Visual Arts engages students in a journey of discovery, experimentation and problem-solving relevant to visual perception and visual language. Students undertake this journey by utilising visual techniques, technologies, practices and processes. Visual Arts supports students’ ability to recognise and develop cultural appreciation of visual arts in the past and contemporary contexts through exploring and responding to artists and their artworks.

All students at Riverside Primary School from Pre-Primary to Year 6 participate in the Visual Arts Program with a specialist teacher. Students engage in lessons that provide a balance between the processes and skills required to create art and an opportunity to use their imagination and display self-expression. The program aims to build children’s confidence in their own art and shows students how art and design can have a positive impact on our lives, school, community, and world.Students use a wide range of mediums across the areas of painting, drawing, collage, printmaking and sculpture. They take inspiration from various artistic styles and artists’ work and are encouraged to reflect on their own artwork and that of their peers. Each student has an Art Folio that contains their artwork and along with this, student artwork is showcased in the front office, in classrooms and the Art room, which is open for families to visit at the annual Learning Journey.
