Sports Chat T2W6

There has been plenty of action on and off the fields in sport recently with the Year 5-6 Winter Sports fixtures taking place and the Year 3 PSSA Soccer carnival.

Year 5-6 Winter Sports

Riverside hosted Greenfields in our Winter Sport competition with wins in AFL and a massive 5-0 win in Soccer. Both teams in Netball and Volleyball competed well and fought all the way to end, unfortunately coming out second best. We have reviewed our strategies and trained and this week travel to Glencoe to compete for our last fixture. All the best Riverside!

Year 3 PSSA Soccer Carnival

A select group of Year 3’s got to learn and show off their skills in Soccer at the PSSA ‘5 a side’ Soccer carnival. It was a sunny day and all students showed great sportsmanship and skills throughout the day. As the carnival focused on participation rather than competition no scores for the day were kept. Awesome job Year 3’s and what an experience to take to future carnivals.

Years 1-6 Sport Program

In the Physical Education program students have moved into different units of skills development and Sport. Our Year 1/2 classes have been practicing FMS skills of throwing, catching and striking. In Year 3/4 classes have moved from Golf into Fundamental Motor Skills. The Year 5/6 classes completed their unit of Volleyball and are now learning Tee Ball.

Upcoming – Faction Cross Country

On Wednesday Week 9, The Faction Cross Country will take place. A large group of keen students and parents have been building up their stamina and endurance at Runners Club on M/W/F mornings. Students will be practicing the course from Week 7 to become familiar with the course and distance. The event will serve as a trial for the Interschool Cross Country event in Term 3 with the top 5 runners qualifying for the event.
